Since the beginning of time, governments have been mainly engaged in kicking people around. The astonishing achievement in modern times in the Western world is the idea that the citizen should do the kicking, demos kratos “people rule” or” the rule of the people” the golden “democracy”.
Although, the Citizenship within a democracy, is like the experience of life it self. Therefore we must seek a common good beyond our comfort; to defend needed reforms against easy attacks; to serve our nation, beginning with our neighbor. Consequently, we must be true citizens: citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens, building communities of service and a nation of character.
But a question still pending, what citizenship to what democracy do we really want???
